Lyrics

I was new in town so I moved around and it didn't take too long
To find a game of cards is a back door bar where the stakes were high and the lights down low
Oh I didn't mean to stay here; I never meant to stay my whole life long
But my cards were hot so I sweetened the pot, my heart was singing the gambling song
When the man between the back door and me threw down his hand, I said "Hold on
I just threw away one of those four eights when I drew into this flush Jack strong."
Chorus: One more honest partner, one more for the road
Please Mr. Hangman, if you could only make it so
If I could live a little longer, I wouldn't pass this way no more.
I said, "Hold on, Mr. Dealer, count this table's cards for us."
But my cheating friend threw a knife instead - before I could stop I shot him
No, I didn't want to kill him, I just didn't want him to cheat no more.
Chorus
Repeat last verse
